NASA Blue Marble - Access to the NASA Blue Marble imagery
ICEDS - Integrated CEOS European Data Server (ICEDS). WMS server with various imagery layers, particularly of Europe and Africa.
Naval Research Lab (NRL) GIDB OpenGIS Web Services
Natural Earth - Natural Earth is a public domain map dataset available at 1:10m, 1:50m, and 1:110 million scales.

Elevation data
CGIAR SRTM 90m - Worldwide 90m elevation dataset. CGIAR SRTM 90m European mirror
SRTM 30 Plus Bathymetry - Worldwide elevation coverage including bathymetric data. Same elevation data used in Google Earth!
SRTM GLCF - SRTM data from the Global Land Cover Facility. Has a nice mosaic of the 30 arc second data here.
